2012 is just around the corner. Today we take a peek back at some of 2011 biggest fashion highlights.The spring 2012 fashions are already in the stores – and from what the designers have teased, it’s safe to say that there will be plenty of exciting looks once the weather heats up again. From London to Paris to New York here are a few of our highlights from 2011. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Christopher Kane won 2011 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund – Christopher Kane is a Scottish fashion designer based in London. He was the winner of the 2011 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. The Award, which is now in its second year, comprises of £200,000 and access to director level mentors across the industry. It was established to further enhance the reputation of London’s rising stars and assist in the development of their businesses.
Vivienne Westwood turned 70 this year- Westwood has never lost her enthusiasm for fashion. Her latest SS 2012 show in Paris, was a Royal punk inspired mix of fabrics and colours, ideas and shapes that demonstrate her lifelong career. The collection also shows Westwood’s lifelong love of mixing historical fashion with the now.
Sarah Burton Designer for Kate Wedding Dress- Sarah Burton the designer of Alexander McQueen was designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. Burton’s work came to the attention of Middleton in 2005 when she attended the wedding of Tom Parker Bowles, the son of the Duchess of Cornwall, for whom Burton had designed the wedding dress for his bride.
John Galliano got fired from Dior- Galliano, known as the current enfant terrible of the fashion business was responsible for Givenchy for two seasons before switching to Dior. Galliano got fired from Dior for allegedly making antisemitic comments drunken in a Paris bar that would result in a fashion week dominated by scandal rather than sartorial fireworks. Ever since Galliano bowed out, Paris has been awash with speculation over who might replace him.
Rihanna for Emporio Armani- Rihanna was featured in the latest Emporio Armani underwear campaign. The pop star posed for photographer Steven Klein in New York City, which also features clothing by Armani Jeans. Celebrities who have been represented Armani include Megan Fox, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Nadal, David Beckham, and Victoria Beckham.
Gucci was celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year. Gucci’s signature style can be described in two words – unbelievably sexy. Their recent campaign FW 2011-12, inspired by the 70s has archived that smoky, sexy look that Gucci thrives on. The campaign was shot by the famous photographer Mert & Marcus and is featuring the models, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Joan Smalls, and Emily Baker.
London Fashion Week- Meadham Kirchhoff has demonstrated a sweet tooth for the coming SS 2012 season. By turning the models into sugary Courtney Love look-e- like satin baby dolls it’s definitely something to be sweetly connected to.
Paris Fashion Week at the Eiffel Tower- Paris Fashion Week launched the first time the show at the Eiffel Tower. The semi-annual Paris event is one of the big four fashion weeks internationally, and is preceded by shows in New York, London and then Milan.
Beyonce Knowles was launching her House of Deréon fashion collection at Selfridges in London. The line is designed in collaboration with Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles, and named in honor of her grandmother Agnés Deréon
Fashion in Motion- Peter Jensen- Danish designer Peter Jensen was the designer who was chosen for 2011 to be the focus of the Victoria & Albert Museum Fashion in Motion event.
Marco Girolami has launched the Mercedes Benz calendar for 2012. The calendar was produced and directed in Rome and is featuring the top model AliceTaticchi.
