Balenciaga’s ultra-modern shapes are the trademarks of the fashion house. Nicolas Ghesquière’s vision for the Spring Summer 2012, displays plenty of Balenciaga’s signature shapes.  He combines elements from Balenciaga’s traditional line with contemporary, like the sculpted dress silhouettes, high-waisted shorts, metallic panels and the abstract prints.

Balenciaga’s creations still standing out with its new creative director who is a genius and he was acknowledged as the new master of the fashion house. Nicholas Ghesquière began work at Balenciaga in 1995 initially put in charge of designing the licensed products.

In 1997 he was named Creative Director and the brand has skyrocketed to the top of hip. In 2000, the Gucci Group bought Balenciaga. Consulting the company archives, Nicolas Ghesquière has taken his inspiration from these treasures, reinterpreting them in the ready-to-wear line.

In particular, the critics noted his uncanny ability to jump-start and influence trends. In 2006, The New York Times went so far as to call him the most important designer of his generation. His bold experimentation and hallmark aesthetic has led to iconic pieces marching down the runways season after season.

The years passed and the fashion house forgot the sublime outline invented by its founder. Since his arrival at Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière has been working to revive the brand. He has invented a style inspired by science fiction. Over the seasons, his designs – a meeting between sensuality and futurism – set the trend.
